Honey

In its organic, raw state, honey is rich in minerals, antioxidants, probiotics, and enzymes.  Made from nectar that bees sip from flower blossoms, honey is a universal medicine, sweetener, and nutrient resource. It is a healing food that provides a very digestible as well as soothing form of sugar (energy) to the body. The medicinal benefits of honey are due to honey’s antibacterial properties. Studies have indicated that raw, unprocessed honey is nature’s richest source of healing enzymes and that it increases reflexes, mental alertness, and even IQ! Select honeys that are raw, preferably organic, and packaged in glass.

It has been suggested that if you have allergies, honey could be beneficial.  If you eat honey that is local to your area, it may help prevent your seasonal allergies.  Bees use pollen from local plants, which eventually ends-up in the local honey.  Regular use of local honey may re-program and enhance your body’s ability to cope with seasonal allergies.

Use honey in teas, desserts, granolas, smoothies, or even by the teaspoon! Caution: Children under the age of 1 should not consume honey.

Honey can also be applied topically to help relieve burns and abrasions or ingested to aid an upset stomach.
